Got down to the business today of putting together an emergency throw&go backpack.
Well, started to put it together. Still can and will be improved upon and added to as I think of necessities that might fit.
I figure it can't hurt. Say the Event has happened. I drive as far to wherever as my auto will get me. For whatever reason it too must be abandoned.
Maybe I'm Still in Houston, maybe I'm halfway to Alaska, maybe I'm gods only know.
Reach over and grab my Jansport pack:
Change of clothes
~5 days food. Sparing, but sustain you
Blanket/towel
Spare hiking boots
Canopeners
Knife (in addition to the pocket one I carry)
Matches and lighter
Tinder-- keep dryer lint in a ziplock...
Plastic silverware
Water is handy- in the trunk of the car in one and two-liter containers.
Likely a sundry or two in the glovebox and the console that could be quickly added.
Tools in their box in the trunk, but I'd like to add a good hand-sized hatchet. Maybe a beltholder-fitted one...
Need to add a bathroom kit-- spare toothbrush, med tape, nail clippers. et cetera
Maps. So I can follow the yellow brick road home. Whatever that is. Whatever, wherever. I have 5 days to decide.
Now, can I only be blessed to make it past the Zombie threshold...

I just read the blogs from the 4th on. I enjoyed the music as Don Williams was always a favorite of mine, too. You know I have always been especially fond of Dolly Parton and "The Coat of Many Colors" is such a special song. I only wish I could have done more for y'all over the years but the love was , and still is, there.

Way to prep brother, you got a good start. You will think of many more items along the way. Make sure they are something that you will use. To many times we load our packs heavy with things we THINK we will use. Give each item a lot of thought. Just my thoughts on a BOB. Having one puts you ahead of many many others. Good job man.
A nice long weekend camping trip will test readiness, missing necessities, overages, etc. Going to do one in March-- 4 days survival run.

Busted, i'm glad you rang. And I got a roll or three tucked in the trunk of ol' MollyMaroon (the Buick). The mre's have some what they claim is asswipe, but their version if the size of what it takes to sanitize that One Square Inch and mine require mas tissue...
I'll see fit to move a roll to the smaller pack-- but some o' the Wendy's napkins, the towel... That dryer lint.

Well I was gonna suggest tp too cept Knuckles said it first. lol cause we have power on to one of our meters so the house has lights & computer but the well is with dh's shop...so no flushing here. Man I'd give up the house lights and fridge just to push a lever. Hope your garden stuff is sprouting. Did you know that with beans the darker seeds are more cold tolerant than white seeds? So if you want early green beans plant ones with dark brown or black seeds.
Steph- Thanks about the darker beans-- I'd not heard, but will keep in mind the next rotation planting..
Mayhap I'd best add some cedar chips...
