Another Broad "To Do"
[And no, not that kinda "broad", nor doing of her... I got another blog for all that poly stuff...]
I say broad because "Legacy" can mean any damn thing we want it to.
To some it might be measured in dollar bills, or Ducats, or whatever coin of the realm you choose/ exist in...
To some it is name and tradition... and though oft tied with money, it needs not necessarily be so.
I don't know what my legacy will be yet. I win the lottery it might be a hangar full of vintage airplanes! ha!
But...
I got a good vision of how to start. Two point two acres worth of vision...
I like gardens. I prefer to be able to eat from a large portion of them, but think of the variety of flora that means--not just garden veggies but fruit trees, nut trees, berry bushes, sunflowers (seeds AND flowers!),dandelion (tea, greens, salad (petals))...
I don't mind leaving as much of it as possible au natural, nor do I mind "formal gardening" [Xerescaping] of needed areas...
What I DO WANT is, this land made a Preserve; I want it not changed for aeons of future generations.
Two acres...
It's a start... Maybe someday little Swan Farms will pepper the nation, eke out their greening across climates varied, producing the same way.

It's a fine dream, Sir - to spread life, to share the bounty of the Earth...a very good dream.
Shade and Sweetwater,
K (who wonders how one plants a Swan, where one finds the seeds...and what sort of fruit does it bear?)
Love the final photo -- "very arty!"
Oh Kyddryn, I love you because you went there with your wondering:)
Do tell us Sir Cyg...
How doth thou plant a Swan?
Peace - Rene
Lady Rene, I'd do just that...
But that might call into question the Southern Gentleswan image I'm trying to purvey here.
Do, hovever, feel free to email me with any questions as to detail. Anytime....;D
Lady K...
To preserve from high rises and wall marts.
And swans, being a mix of water-air dwellers, are a difficult lot to root; like seaweed, with their webbed feet they tend to drift much, kinda their own floating home...
Hence the scattered and varied fruits they bear. And no bigger fruit than Yours Truly! ha!
Thank you, Deb!
I think...
ha!
Hey there, my fine feathered friend
I am so loving the picture of the Lily plant. It looks just the like the Oriental Lilly's I have on my front porch. :D
Your vision of having Swan Farms dotting across the US is an admirable one. I believe that you can do it too.
Preserving as much of our land for future generations is an undertaking well worthwhile.
I am rooting(no pun intended)for you, it just takes one day at a time, patience and perserverance.

Felinae
Lady Felinae--
Lillies are also very compatible companion-plants for Swan Seedlings... Careful with those in your yard-- no telling what kinds of Strange Birds you're likely to draw thither...
So, Lily plants and Swan seedlings are compatible, are they...
No worries here, Cygnus.
I happen to have a soft spot for strange birds so if one happens to wander into/onto my porch, I'm pretty sure I could handle it just fine ;D

Heh...strange fruit, indeed...
Mizz Rene, it's that lack of brain-to-mouth filter...gets me into all sorts of trouble..er...fun...
Meanwhile, Sir - I adore the idea of snatching land from the maw of the ever-hungry Evil Empire and making gardens instead, little green places to remind folk that they are alive, and don't need all that cheap plastic crap, anyway.
Nothing wrong with drifting...riding the waves and seeing where they bring you. Appeals to the Gypsy in me...hmm...
Shade and Sweetwater,
K (who it seems, is once again not sleeping...look out, Blue Nowhere, insomnia is a terrible thing to waste)
Just being saucy... :)
Peace - Rene
LAdy Rene-- please don't ever stop...:D
Lady K,
Well, there's that... and needing several places to stop in the migratory winter/summer ...
Convenience and all...
[WOW, that sounds bad...]
C.
**[migrating swan sees porch with nice lillies... zoning in... headed down...]**
Haha,
Well then if you'll be headed down...I'll be sure and clear a path for you so that your landing will be a smooth one...

A 2 acre legacy would be a fine one to leave behind if you ask me brother. And one with all those good things you mention would be even better. Loved all the pics, you seem to always take the best ones on the web. Great job brother.
